Composition Credits
Joey grew up in New York City playing guitar since he was three.
At age 9, he he was singing in Doowop Groups and was a part of that culture in the fifties. He was working as a professional musician by the 60's, as a singer/songwriter in the group "The peepL", which got signed to Buddha Label on the basis of his (and his fellow songwriter's) material. The group later broke up because of manager/producer squabbles), but after many bands and gigs, as well as straight gigs, this player/singer/songwriter called his fellow 'peepL' Band member Rob Turner up 30 years later and said "Let's do it! Let's form a project band and finally document all our songs!" Today Joseph M. De Jesus and Robert Child Turner form the singer songwriter composer extraordiaire Duo nucleus called "The Protons, and have just released a new CD Single under the title "Passion Fire", a new beginning to what is sure to be a skyrocketing career for both of them. Meanwhile, back in the 70's, Joseph was in another band with Rob called 'United Train', which was signed briefly to Atlantic based on their songwriting ability. But Joseph wasn't just limited to songwriting. He has played guitar all his life, basically. As a result, besides the over 100 songs he has written, he has composed a Rock Opera called "The Romantic", which will eventually contain his major works of musical art.
Performance Abilities:
Joseph has performed his original songs for the public in many different venues during and since the 60's, and has a unique style of singing and playing that grabs listener and motivates them to either dance, or be drawn into another world of lyric intensity. Joey has a unique style of strumming, combining Brazilian and latin Rhythms, Samba, Tango and Calypso. Hints of influences from Rock, Soul, Motown, & Latin Grooves, come out through the many different modes of his styles, although he really doesn't sound like any one style, but definitely has his own unique style. His songs reflect a spiritual message and has ballads that speak of Love, love's lived and lost, and others of a Love to come - recently about a greater Love, such as his newly formed "Projecto El", reflecting a deeper spiritual message than the 'free' love of the 60's and 70's. Joseph makes the listener think, about the lyrics, compels them to reflect on their own lives and spirituality, and how they've been affected or how they've affected others, in life, and in love...
Joseph's lyrics and melodies play straight to your heart, especially the love songs that he writes. He is definitely another one of the world-class writers.
