Other Shows put on recently by WYT:

"Motown To The Monkeys"

a Musical Cabaret comprised of Songs from the 60's, put on by the Oldest Group of Teens of the Woodstock Youth Theater.

Performances were at the Bearsville Theater, Woodstock, NY. From the reviews in the Woodstock Times, the show was well received bt the Woodstock Community, as are all of WYT's Productions to date!

Also, the following weekend, WYT put on another Production:

"Ickle Me, Pickle Me, Tickle Me Too!"

which was an Original Play created by the Youngest Faction of the Woodstock Youth Theater. They performed on Sunday, June 20th, 1999 at 2 PM at the Bearsville Theater. This performance was also applauded highly by the Woodstock Community and all those who attended. At the end of the performance, Director Beth Lipton proceeded to show the audience how such a show was created, by having members of the audience participate in the making of a new hypothetical version of "The Three Bears", which we all helped create on the spot, with the help of the Kids. It was great fun, a wonderful learning experience for me, and I'm sure, others in the audience, as well as an insight into the inner workings of the Woodstock Youth Theater and it's mission.

I might add that the kids from this younger group came up with the plot and script for the show "Ickle Me, Pickle Me, Tickle Me Too!" by themselves, with a little help from Beth Lipton and her associates on the Staff. Ideas like "OK, what should happen next?" were offered up for grabs, and the kids would grab that idea and take it to the next level, of "What happens next is..." and then they would proceed to tell you what happened... Well, you should see for yourselves. They definitely took it to the next level, in my opinion! Catch the next event, to be announced - keep your eyes peeled for the date, right here on WAVElinks/WYT, or in the Woodstock Times.

All dialog, script, music, songs and lyrics were conceived, written, composed, arranged and produced entirely by the members of the Woodstock Youth Theater and the WYT Staff.
"Journey to Friday" was a successful 1999 World Premier Performance
at The Bearsville Theater on the last weekend in February, 1999.
Performances were at 7 PM on Friday and Saturday, Febrary 26th and 27th, and a Matinee Performance at 2 PM on Sunday, February 28th.

Picture this! A group of teens composing, writing, arranging, scripting, plotting, designing, producing and acting in their own all-original Woodstock World Premier Musical Theater Production of "Journey To Friday", taking place in Woodstock's own Bearsville Theater. The performance took off and soared through the entire weekend, Friday Saturday & Sunday, February 26th, 27th, & 28th; the show was a smashing success, in my book. Audiences all three days applauded throughout the show, for both performances by individual cast members and also entire cast production numbers. All of the singing was professional and the lyrical messages reached our hearts. What a great performance! Here's cheering you on, WYT!

An Interview with the Director of the Woodstock Youth Theater

In an interview with Beth Lipton, the Founder and Artistic Director of the Woodstock Youth Theater, I was pleased to hear that the Woodstock Youth Theater is for Kids and Teens of all ages - from 5 to 18 - and incorporates two groups -- the younger kids, and the older kids -- into it's plan of action. The working programs that WYT sponsors within its halls are "... performance and training in acting, dancing, singing and songwriting skills, including improv, choreography, scene work," and work with such production themes as "Drama, Musicals, Comedy and Dance." This coming year, WYT will incorporate three groups, Younger, Mid-Teen and Older, all working on separate projects!
The Mission Statement: "Woodstock Youth Theater is dedicated to helping young people discover a sense of self and others through the Performing Arts. The Youth Theater offers training and performance experience to youth ages 5 through 18, and is committed to the higher quality of performance for our community through national and international touring. The Youth Theater provides Arts and Education programming in the schools, to help bring the Arts to all young people."
"We believe strongly in the power of the Arts as a dynamic and progressive teaching tool. We support and explore important social environmental and community issues through the Performing Arts."
"The Youth Theater champions Young Artists as valued assets to the Arts Community at large."

Review:

On the weekend of February 26, 27, & 28, at the Bearsville Theater:

The Woodstock Youth Theater Presented
their all original Musical Theater Production of:

                      "Journey To Friday"

"Journey To Friday" - article by RockRoovly:

This group of teenagers (comprising the "older group" faction of the Woodstock Youth Theater, under the direction of Beth Lipton and in conjunction with members of the Youith Theater Staff), has written and scripted the plot, composed and arranged the music, designed and built the set, in other words fully produced and then acted and sang in their own all-original Woodstock World Premier Musical Theater Production of "Journey To Friday". This marvelously innovative and "true-to-life" work of Performance Art was brilliantly performed at the Bearsville Theater in Bearsville, NY (suburb of Woodstock) on the weekend of Friday Saturday & Sunday, February 26th, 27th, & 28th! The show also featured live music performed by a pit orchestra, with solo singing performances by individual members of the cast, as well as entire cast-participation musical numbers.
This production was definitely worth the time. I recommend it as "Highest Priority" - a must see! Hopefully the Youth Theater will pursue this musical endeavor to further heights. Alas! for now, I hear it was a "One time only World Premier!" If you missed this golden opportunity, I sincerely hope that you will get the chance to see it in the future. However, I now understand that "Journey To Friday" will be performed at New York City's Fringe Festival in the latter part of August this year (1999). I assumed that the promoters of this show would continue to further it's lifetime, as it was well worth the effort, and shows great promise. And now it looks as though that will come to pass. Here's hoping that from New York City's Fringe Festival, they will move on to Paris and the Rest Of The World! Yes!
If you get the chance to see "Journey To Friday" again, I promise it will give you a marvelous experience - an insight into what is happening with our youth today, in these rapidly changing times. The experience of "Journey To Friday" guarantees to definitely broaden your views about our youth in Woodstock today, by letting you in on their creativity and brilliance, and by showing you what they can do, and what they are capable of, when they get together and channel their energies creatively. It might even change your life! It has changed mine. Here's hoping they will do it again!
